ECCENTRIC children's television presenter gave the inaugural Wales Institute of Mathematical and Computational Sciences (WIMCS) Annual Lectures at Bangor University.

The free lecture for Mathematics pupils aged 15 and over was entitled Wobbling on the Shoulders of Giants.

Professor Terry Lyons, FRS, FRSE, Director of the Wales Institute of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, said: "Our Annual Lectures series and associated activities are part of the Institute's programme for educational outreach in Wales, which aims to inspire future generations of researchers in the mathematical and computational sciences.

"Throughout his career, Johnny Ball has inspired countless youngsters with his enthusiasm for mathematics and science, and we are delighted to have secured such an exciting and motivational presenter to give our inaugural annual lecture."

Johnny Ball was a mainstay of television in the 1970s and 1980s, with an uncanny ability to make the complicated understandable and learning fun.
