A FORMER athlete bravely battling a terminal condition has appealed for help to record a charity CD.
Nigel Owen, 42, wants to produce a CD to raise funds for St David's Hospice, but has been rendered bedridden by the arterial inflammation of his spinal cord.

As a result, he is looking to "cut" the tracks at his home in Llanfairfechan, and urgently wants to speak to anyone who can assist.

He said: "I'm looking for any possible collaborations to help me make the album, either from like-minded musicians or people with experience on the technical side of things.

"My material is influenced by the likes of Cat Stevens and Bob Dylan so my contribution will be folk orientated - however, if there are any bands out there with 'spare' tracks from sessions they might like to donate, that would be appreciated."

The power of music is something that has had a massive impact on Nigel's life as he has battled adversity.

A cross country runner and martial artist until the age of 20, he was told the day before his 21st birthday that he would never work again.

However, throughout that time he has honed his guitar playing skills, and today music plays a crucial part of his life.

He added: "With my illness, time is not on my side and in the last year my health has deteriorated more – I still find it hard to cope with being in this bed 24/7, and the only time I get fresh air is when I go to and from the ambulance.

"Music is incredibly theraputic for me, and helps to take my mind off the pain."

Nigel is looking to hear from anyone who wants to get involved in his project, or anyone who can offer advice or equipment; he added: "I'm determined to get it done, but will need some help to put it all together."
