A CAERNARFON dog has been nominated for the highly prestigious title of Guide Dog of the Year 2008.
There are 4,600 guide dogs throughout the UK, and it is the aim of this award to recognise and commend the great work they do as they provide a life-changing service to the blind or partially sighted.
Whispa, an eight year-old golden retriever/labrador cross who lives with her owner Deborah Naylor, she has been nominated into the life changing category of the awards because of the huge difference she has made to her owners life.
Speaking about how her relationship with Whispa, and how Whispa has changed her life Deborah said: "In the last six years, Whispa has changed my life for the better and I am now much happier.
"Since I have had her, she has been my best friends and helped me - I now don't have to rely on people to guide me around.
"She always knows how to cheer me up and we are very close buddies.
She's been a big friend, and has given me more independence and freedom.
"I do have high hopes for her winning the award."
But this inspirational pair still have another two rounds of judging to go through before Whispa can be named Guide Dog of the Year 2008 at the awards ceremony in at Kennel Club in London on September 8.
Vicky Bell, of Guide Dogs, said: "Although all our guide dogs are extraordinary in their own right, the Guide Dog of the Year Awards will recognise some of those dogs that are truly outstanding, having completely changed the life of their owner, shown outstanding work or gone above and beyond the call of duty in their amazing work."
