THE landmark Menai Bridge got some extra support as women hung a chain of bras along its length.

Cancer care charity Macmillan Cancer Support used the old bras to support people living with cancer, by hanging them up across the bridge. The charity challenged people in North Wales to hold their very own bra and pound to work fundraiser and gave them the opportunity to see their old bra swinging on the Menai Bridge with hundreds of others.

The charity hopes that the event will raise £5,000 for people affected by cancer. Macmillan has funded 52 Macmillan health and social care professionals in North Wales so far, including Macmillan nurses, GP facilitators and occupational therapists, to help the 4,000 people who are diagnosed with cancer every year in North Wales.

The money raised will help fund more services like Macmillan's North Wales Welfare Rights Service, which works across the three North Wales hospitals.

Most cancer patients and their families experience some form of financial hardship and our four welfare benefits advisers, help complete complicated and lengthy
paperwork and provide basic advice on debts, housing and employment rights. Since the Service started in 2004, they have helped over 1,300 people gain £3m in benefits and tax credits.

Eleri Brady, Macmillan fundraising manager for North Wales, said: 'This has been a great way of getting people involved in raising funds for people affected by
cancer, as well as providing a fantastic opportunity to sort out the underwear drawers of North Wales.

"Even the men have been getting involved – I think they've been using it as an excuse to get rid of that old, grey bra their partner keeps on wearing!"
